Heyo! Its me again, that nerd with Natalie (i30 SedaN).

Hyundai recently announced an “Urgent Safety Recall” for certain vehicles with their DCT’s. So far, we haven’t received any public information on how many vehicles are affected by Hyundai recall #21D155, based on the affected models it will be over 25,000 vehicles in the Australian market. The affected models include:

Model Built between
Santa Fe (MY2020 ~ 2021) 18/May/2020 ~ 19/May/2022
Kona N (MY2021 ~ 2022) 17/Nov/2020 ~ 28/Mar/2022

This recall has been reported for the last few months in the American Market[1] Hyundai have so far attempted to contact affected customers via email. In this email they state the cause of the defect and the potential hazards that are in place. Long and the short of it are: There is potential for the DCT oil pump to fail causing the vehicle to lose motive power for 20-30 seconds, followed by a complete loss of “vehicle motive power”.

The potential fix to this is to “upgrade the DCT logic software” and according to sources from Reddit subreddit for the CN7 i30 Sedan N (Elantra N)[2] depending on the model of vehicle you may receive a transmission replacement if your vehicle qualifies.

If you do own an affected vehicle, please contact Hyundai to book an appointment, by contacting Hyundai Customer Care on 1800 186 306 or your local dealer. Details from the manufacturer below.

We are still pending an entry on vehiclerecalls.gov.au, there is currently an active recall listed for the seat belt pretensioner #21D074. You can find Hyundai email to customers below (with censored personal information). GCB will attempt keep you updated on is happening with this recall.

PART A. DEFECT, HAZARD AND REMEDY What is the defect? In the event of an oil pump fault or failure in the DCT, the Software logic for “fail-safe” driving conditions does not respond correctly and can result in approximately 20-30 seconds of unimpeded motive power, followed by a complete loss of vehicle motive power.

What is the hazard? A loss of motive power while driving at high speed could increase the risk of a crash. This could potentially result in injury or death of vehicle occupants and other road users.

There are no known injuries or deaths associated with the defect, either in Australia or outside of Australia.

Remedy To remedy this concern, an authorised Hyundai dealer will need to upgrade the DCT logic software. There is no charge for this repair.
